Scales This mezuzah cover incorporates artist Edoardo Villa’s panel that depicts scales. This is the symbol for the tribe of Dan. Dan was the fifth son of Jacob and the first son of Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaiden. In the blessing of Jacob in Genesis 49, Dan is described as a judge and a snake, therefore these two symbols are that of Dan.
